SXSW 2019

kids performing at SXSW 2019 at the Thinkery MuseumThroughout the year, the Franklin Music Academy is invited to participate in different events from local businesses requesting our students to perform. Naturally, we are very selective in the events we encourage our students to participate in. Our first priority is to protect the safety of our students. Before we agree to participate in an event, we always research the credibility of the business.  This year, a scheduling decision set by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board impacted our ability to participate in SXSW 2019.

The Thinkery Museum in the Austin Mueller area contacted us again this year to participate in their Unofficial SXSW 2019 event. The event provides a few Austin music schools a platform for kids to perform in a band in front of other kids. The students and parents who attended last year had a great time. It was a perfect opportunity for them to perform what they’ve learned all year before the big recital. However, unfortunately, this year we declined to participate.

Normally, the international festival, SXSW, schedule falls in line with Texas school’s Spring Break, which historically is the third week in March. This year Spring Break is a week after SXSW 2019. Coordinating practice lessons the week before the performance during a school week would be taxing for the students as well as the parents.

For parents who are interested in attending the event, the Thinkery may not be hosting the event after all. We recently checked their March calendar for the event and it was not posted.
