Getting Started

The average age to start formal music lessons is no earlier than six, but seven is ideal. The main criteria are that the child knows his/her alphabet and can sit still for 30 minutes.

The lessons are held at the Franklin Music Academy. We have found that students progress better in a setting outside of their home.

The period of time that a student is enrolled in the program varies.
The more a person wishes to learn the longer they will take lessons.
Basic fundamentals can take about three months to learn on average, however; music is a science that can be studied for a lifetime.

Yes! We teach students from age 7 to 107. Don’t worry if you have zero experience. As long as you have the attention span to learn, we’re happy to teach you.

Not at all.

Our instructors are well-versed in various music styles and will infuse excitement into learning. Our main priority is to make sure new students enjoy music while learning.

We have pre-selected music that will develop each student’s skills. However, if a student wants to sample a specific genre, an instructor will help select appropriate music tailored to their taste and skill level.

We are available by appointment only. We offer a free lesson to allow you to come check out the school, meet a teacher and see how lessons work.

Contact us if you would like to check out the school.

Yep! We have several homeschooled kids that attend our music school and working them into our schedule is normally easier.

No.

Every instructor evaluates each student to determine their level of understanding, and then tailors each student’s plan of study.

Each student may have to purchase method books and learning materials from time to time. However, the majority of what you learn will be given to you for FREE!

Students are expected to bring their assignment binder and/or music to every lesson.

Oh, you’ll know! We have a built-in communication system that allows parents to know their child’s progression every step of the way.

A smiling face and willingness to learn.

If you’re taking bass, guitar or ukulele and have your own instrument, please bring it with you. If you do not own one of these kinds of instrument, we have one that can be used for this session.

After the consultation, we’ll send you an email to find out how it went and to provide instructions on how to enroll.

Basically, after you express that you’d like to enroll, we’ll schedule your lessons, setup your billing and then send you your first invoice.

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy, and can only offer one free lesson/consultation. If you can’t make your scheduled lesson, please do one of the following:

  • You can cancel 24 hours in advance via the link included in your lesson reminder email.
  • If you need to cancel with less than 24-hours’ notice, please let us know via email.

We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Please let us know immediately of any problems you are experiencing. Our goal is to create accomplished, confident musicians. We encourage open and direct communication with your teacher and suggest the most efficient way to do this is by email.

If you’re ever unhappy with any part of your lesson, please contact our office so we have the opportunity to make it right.

We will provide more information regarding instrument selections soon.

We are a home-based music school tucked away in the Tanglewood Forest neighborhood.

Recitals are FREE! This is what sets us a part from many music schools that may charge an additional fee.

Billing Questions

You can add, edit, or sign-up for AutoPay within the Student Portal. Scroll down to the footer of the webpage until you see Parent/Student Login.

At the end of each month, we’ll invoice you for any lessons that are scheduled during the upcoming month.

Any lessons that you cancel with more than 24 hours of notice will be issued a lesson credit which you can use to schedule a future lesson of the same type.

Should you need to make changes to your lesson schedule — such as missing a couple of weeks for a planned vacation — please contact us by the end of the current month to ensure that these changes are reflected in the upcoming invoice.

Your invoice will be emailed to you around the 25th of each month, and is DUE by the 5th of the following month. We charge a late fee of $10 on all past-due invoices.

Check out our Music Lessons for the most up-to-date lesson fees.

No, all classes must be paid in advance.

At the end of the month, we’ll send you an invoice for all lessons currently scheduled for next month.

We only accept credit and debit card via the Student Portal, which can be found in the footer below titled Parent/Student Login.

Please remember that you must pay by the 5th of the month to avoid the $10 late fee.

Checks are also accepted. Bounced checks will incur an additional fee of $35.

As long as you cancel any lessons prior to the end of the current month, you will not be billed for them. Any cancellations after your monthly invoice has been generated will be issued lesson credits which you can use to schedule future lessons.

All students of the Franklin Music Academy must pay tuition for the semester(s) they attend.

The Fall semester runs September – December and Spring semester starts in January and ends in May giving each student 35 lessons for the entire school year.

We invoice in monthly, convenient installments to make each payment affordable. Each monthly payment goes toward paying down the tuition for the school year.

New students may join anytime and will only pay for the months they attend our music school.

Tuition holds your child’s spot on the schedule. It is required to be paid in full regardless of any lessons missed. Invoices will be emailed to each student/parent at the end of each month.

Payment must be made no later than the 5th of the next month following the date the invoice was received.

No.

The Franklin Music Academy will be closed during the following holidays:

  • Week of Spring Break
  • Week of Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Break (2 weeks)

There are no tuition adjustments or makeup days during the holidays FMA observes.

Remember: We invoice each student based on 35 weeks of lessons we provide each school year.

We bill a flat rate monthly to make each payment affordable, which is why customers pay the same each month regardless if they have 4 or 5 lessons during the month.

Cancellation Questions

We require 24 hours’ notice to cancel a lesson without forfeiting your lesson.

If you need to cancel an upcoming lesson, do one of the following:

  • Contact us via email
  • Call or text us at 512-992-7899 and leave a message with our office

When you cancel a lesson, it puts a lesson credit on your account that you can use to book another, rescheduled lesson in the future.

Note: Only the same type of lesson can be rescheduled using the credit.

If the lesson occurs in a month for which you haven’t yet paid, it will reduce the next month’s invoice by the cost of that lesson. You won’t pay for it and, therefore, you won’t receive any kind of credit.

If the lesson occurs in a month for which you have paid, it will create a lesson credit on your account and you can use it to book another, rescheduled lesson in the future.

Please note that you can only schedule the same exact type of lesson using this credit.

Sometimes unforeseen events will occur like unexpected weather, black outs, etc. We appreciate you giving us the opportunity to makeup the lesson.

Last-minute cancellations by the school or music instructor will count as a monetary credit which you may use to apply as a form of payment on your next month’s invoice.

If you find that you are accruing many lesson credits because you’re unable to reschedule lessons, please contact the office to discuss your options.

We can work with you to find a better time that doesn’t require a lot of cancellations, proactively cancel lessons for upcoming vacations so that you’re not billed for them to begin with, or turn the lesson credits into monetary credits that you can apply toward future invoices.

You may reserve your lesson time slot for up to three weeks. If you require an extension, kindly inform us by the 20th of the month for discontinuation in the following month. When you’re ready to resume, we’ll collaborate to find a convenient time slot.

To end lessons, choose one of the following options:

  1. Notify us via email.
  2. Call us at 512-992-7899.

Credit balances will be kept on file for future use.

While we regret your departure, we acknowledge that circumstances evolve and anticipate your return soon. To cease lessons indefinitely, please notify us by the 20th for discontinuation the following month.

To discontinue indefinitely, choose one of the following:

  1. Notify us via email
  2. Call us at 512-992-7899

Credit balances can be refunded or retained for future use if you foresee a return in a few months. Your current time slot will not be held if you decide to cancel and/or take a long break.

Please note:

A student may withdraw from the Franklin Music Academy at any time; however, there is no reimbursement for classes missed if the student withdrawals in the middle of the month.

Yes.

We understand that kids get sick and that you can’t predict this, but out of respect for our teachers, their time, and livelihood, we have to charge for any cancellation made with less than 24 hours’ notice. We appreciate your understanding.

A credit will be added to your account to use at a future date.

No.

While it’s appreciated to inform the teacher of your absence, they are dedicated to teaching and not involved in scheduling.

For cancellations or rescheduling, please reach out to the office directly.

Understanding your desire for a consistent schedule learning experience, we aim to provide substitutes when your teacher is unavailable.

We’ll communicate details via email so you’ll know what to expect and seek your feedback to ensure you received a positive and successful lesson.

In the rare event we can’t arrange a substitute, your lesson will be canceled at no cost to you.
